ImPACTS ED 2022

Are you interested in high-quality, innovative, FREE pediatric education/simulation for your ED?

Improving Pediatric Acute Care Through Simulation (ImPACTS) is a team of Pediatric Emergency Specialists who have conducted pediatric improvement programs in EDs for more than 10 years.

ImPACTS aims to ensure

  • All emergency providers are prepared to provide timely, safe and effective care to children.

  • All EDs have the equipment/resources to provide timely, safe and effective care to children.

  • All regional tertiary care pediatric centers are collaborating with their community partners.

How can my ED participate in ImPACTS?

 

  1. Designate a Pediatric Emergency Car Coordinator (PECC) to recruit staff, coordinate with your ED leadership and partner with a designated ImPACTS Pediatric Emergency Specialist!

  2. PECC recruits 1-2 physicians/PA/APRNs + 2-5 nurses to participate in a 12-week program.

WEEK 1: Simulation-based training #1 (90 minutes)

  • One interprofessional team (1-2 doctor, 2-3 RNs, tech) will care for a series of THREE pediatric patients.

  • ImPACTS pediatric emergency medicine specialists will co-facilitate the simulations and debriefing & bring simulation equipment to your ED!

  • Virtual/blended simulation options are available in case of COVID restrictions.

 

WEEKS 2-11: online pediatric education/resources (20-minutes/week x 8)

  • ImPACTS created podcasts, choose your own adventures, live-action videos, webinars and cognitive aids.

WEEK 12:  Simulation-based training #2 (90 minutes)

  • The same interprofessional team (1-2 doctors, 2-3 RNs, tech) will care for a series of THREE additional pediatric patients.

  • ImPACTS pediatric emergency medicine specialists will co-facilitate the simulations and debriefing & bring sim equipment to your ED!
