Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh

UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh is a quaternary care facility, located in Western Pennsylvania. Founded in 1890, the current hospital spans a campus of 10 acres and accommodates over 12,300 inpatient visits and over 1 million outpatient visits per year. The facility is a level 1 trauma center, with 315 licensed beds, including a 41-bed Emergency Department, 36-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, 12-bed Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, 55-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and 13 Operating Suites. UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh has achieved Magnet Recognition ® status from the American Nurses Credentialing Center and also leads the way in advanced technology as the first pediatric hospital in this country to achieve Stage 7 recognition from HIMSS Analytics for its electronic medical record. The hospital has a rich academic research history, and the John G. Rangos Sr. Research Center is an on-site 10-story, 300,000-square foot research facility, including a state-of-the art conference center. UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh serves Western Pennsylvania and surrounding ares including Ohio, West Virginia, and has strong international programs. The hospital also hosts The Pediatric Simulation Center of UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. Opened in 2005, the simulation center boasts over 35 individual simulation training courses and promulgates multidisciplinary, in-situ simulation throughout the facility, including physician, nursing, respiratory therapy, and pharmacy-based simulation. The simulation center also supports simulation education for the surrounding pediatric community, including outreach pediatric simulation to support the 35 hospital UPMC system.
