Champions Driving Change in Pediatric Readiness

Learn how we train, support, and grow a national network of pediatric champions.

Behind every successful pediatric readiness initiative are dedicated individuals driving the effort forward. Pediatric Emergency Care Coordinators (PECCs) and Pediatric Readiness Improvement & Simulation Mentors (PRISMs) are at the center of this work.

PECCs are frontline champions, often nurses, physicians, or educators, who coordinate pediatric care in their EDs. PRISMs are trained mentors who guide PECCS and ED teams using hands-on simulation, monthly coaching, and real-world guidance.

Together, they form the backbone of pediatric readiness efforts and are supported, trained, and empowered by ImPACTS to enact change within their departments and beyond. Our approach provides these champions with the necessary tools and guidance to not only enhance their own EDs but also build confidence in others, share best practices, and expand readiness efforts across their teams and regions.

Whether you are interested in one of these roles or looking to strengthen your champion network, this section offers a clear introduction to the functions of PECCs and PRISMs and how they can enhance your work. There’s a place for you in the ImPACTS community.

Pediatric Emergency Care Coordinators (PECCs)

PECCs are designated team members, often nurses, educators, or providers, who champion pediatric care in their EDs. PECCs coordinate pediatric training, facilitate SimBox simulations, manage readiness tracking, and serve as a bridge between frontline staff and leadership. While many PECCs are formally recognized, any motivated team member can take on the work of pediatric coordination and leadership.
