PRISM Position Description
Roles and Responsibilities

Overview

Pediatric Readiness Improvement & Simulation Mentors (PRISMs) are experienced emergency care clinicians who serve as mentors and readiness coaches for Pediatric Emergency Care Coordinators (PECCs) and ED teams. Using the ImPACTS Mentorship Model, PRISMs provide training, resources, and guidance that help EDs build confidence, conduct simulations, and address pediatric readiness gaps in sustainable ways.

Preferred Background

  • ​​RN, physician, advanced practice provider, or paramedic (EMT-P)

  • Pediatric and/or ED clinical experience

  • Previous experience as a PECC or pediatric champion 

  • Experience facilitating scenario-based training (e.g., PALS, ENPC, TNCC, ATLS/ATCN, mock codes, etc.)

Key Responsibilities

Orientation and Training

  • Review PRISM job description and complete contract paperwork

  • Train in Pediatric Readiness, including NPRP assessment and gap analysis

  • Learn strategies for identifying and providing resources to support PECCs

  • Participate in simulation training with SimBox, including facilitator practice and use of participant feedback forms

  • Receive communication training on designated platforms (e.g., Zulip, WhatsApp, email)

Site Management and Mentorship

  • Support a minimum of five active community ED sites and their PECCs

  • Guide PECCs toward independence by progressively reducing oversight as milestones are met

  • Annually (per site):

    • Co-facilitate at least one on-site (or virtual if needed) simulation day with the PECC

    • Conduct an NPRP assessment and review/update the gap analysis with site leadership

    • Submit an annual site report

  • Quarterly:

    • Facilitate or support simulations, with PECCs leading and PRISMs coaching

    • Monitor and document PECC progress using milestone tools

  • Monthly (or as needed):

    • Share targeted education and resources with PECCs

    • Update site trackers and activity logs in a timely manner

    • Hold one-on-one check-ins with PECCs to review simulation counts, participation, and progress on action plans

    • Facilitate group check-ins with all assigned PECCs every other month

Team Collaboration and Program Engagement

  • Participate in bi-weekly team meetings with PRISMs, trainers, managers, academic partners, and research staff

  • Provide feedback on resources, curriculum, and education strategies through surveys and direct feedback channels

  • Conduct quarterly check-ins with state project managers

  • Actively engage in ongoing Pediatric Readiness and PRISM professional development opportunities

  • Monitor Zulip (or designated communication streams) and respond promptly

  • Attend unscheduled check-ins as needed and respond to emails in a timely manner

Professional Standards

  • Maintain accurate and timely submission of activity logs, trackers, and required documentation

  • Represent PRISM and the ImPACTS program as a reliable, collaborative mentor and resource

Time and Commitment

  • Manage a minimum of five active community ED sites and their PECCs

  • Conduct regular communication (monthly individual check-ins, quarterly simulations, annual site visits/assessments

  • Adjust intensity of mentorship as PECCs gain independence, following the ImPACTS Mentorship Model

     

Equipment and Accountability

  • Maintain careful possession of simulation equipment, technology, and other assigned materials

  • Ensure timely return of equipment when the role concludes
